Book Snippet #3: The Power of Reflection and Celebration

I have spent the last couple of posts exploring small, meaningful ways to create positive change, by building habits, tweaking our environment and learning how to overcome obstacles. As we wrap up this series, let’s talk about one of the most important elements of transformation: reflection and celebration.

Here’s a snippet from my book:

“In the rush to improve ourselves, we often forget to pause and acknowledge how far we’ve come. Reflection isn’t about dwelling on what’s unfinished, it’s about honouring your progress, no matter how small. Every step forward deserves to be celebrated.”

Why Reflection Matters

  • It reinforces your motivation by showing you the progress you’ve made.
  • It helps you identify what’s working and what’s not.
  • It shifts your mindset from “I’m not there yet” to “Look how far I’ve come.”

Why Celebration Matters

Science backs this up: When you celebrate your wins, no matter how small, it releases dopamine, the “feel-good” neurotransmitter that helps you stay motivated and build momentum. It’s like giving your brain a high-five!

Your Action This Week

Take 10 minutes today to reflect on the small wins you’ve had this month. Maybe you:

  • Drank more water.
  • Practiced gratitude once or twice.
  • Created a new habit or simply started thinking about it.

Write them down and give yourself credit for every single one. Then, celebrate! Treat yourself to a favourite snack, take a walk in nature, or simply smile and say, “I’m proud of myself.”

Today’s Thought

“Progress, not perfection, is the key to transformation.”

Until next time.
